Joan of Arc (1412-1431) was a national heroine of France during the Hundred Years’ War and has been beatified as a Catholic Saint. Said to have seen divine visions that led her to support the war efforts of the French, she took part in several victories in the battlefield that made her a beloved and well-known figure amongst her countrymen. She was burned at the stake by the English at just nineteen years old and is one of the most important women in human history, having not only fought in wars but actually led her own armies, both of which were completely unprecedented.
