This Spanish Baroque masterpiece has been housed at the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid, Spain since it was gifted to the museum by King Fernando VII in the early to mid 1800s. This intensely moving painting is known for its exquisite mastery, and for capturing the stark but visceral pathos that came with the crucifixion of Christ. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful anatomical studies ever created in Western Art History.
